Finding things to do near Memorial Heights, Houston isn’t difficult. The neighborhood is full of unique and noteworthy restaurants and bars, shopping boutiques, and other points of interest. But if a day at a museum or a movie theater just sounds too mundane, there are plenty of ways to shake things up. Here’s a look at some out of the ordinary attractions around town.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

When it comes to getting your adrenaline going, war games are always a surefire solution. And when it comes to war games, nothing quite compares to paintball.

There are two paintball facilities close to Memorial Heights. The first of these, Combat Houston, can be found right on Richmond Avenue in Uptown. Combat Houston pits teams of players against each other in a post-apocalyptic landscape where junk cars, piles of tires, and other debris serve as cover from oncoming fire. Admission to the field is priced at $20, and other charges are added for gun rentals, gear, and paintballs. The second paintball facility near Memorial Heights is Urban Warzone. This facility has fields that are similar to that of Combat, with bunkers and plenty of other blockades to shield you from enemy fire. One-hour play tickets start at just $25, and unlimited play tickets start at just $35.

Slow Down the Fun

While running around dodging paintballs is certainly fun, it’s not always the best game for the occasion. Fortunately, the Memorial Heights neighborhood is also close to several facilities that offer a good time at a slower pace.

Visited by more than 60,000 people annually, Memorial Park Golf Course is considered one of the top public golf courses in the nation. Although it originally opened as a 9-hole course for soldiers staying at the nearby Camp Logan hospital, it was later expanded and now boasts 600 acres with a clubhouse, a lighted driving range, and several putting and chipping greens. Entrance fees start at approximately $30, with additional charges for club and cart rentals.

Activity You Can Taste

Going out to a restaurant or bar with friends is always a good time, though it does fall more on the routine side of the entertainment spectrum. Luckily, visiting a brewery is a way that you can enjoy all of the tasty fun of a restaurant without feeling like you’re having a run-of-the-mill weekend.

Craft breweries are popping up all over the country, and Memorial Heights is no different. Located right on Nolda Street, Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company is right in the center of the neighborhood. The brewery runs tours that are open to the public every Saturday afternoon, starting at 3PM. Guests can expect to see how the beers are made and sample one or two of the beverages during the tour.

Without a doubt, living in Memorial Heights certainly gives you access to many different forms of entertainment. Remember that this list isn’t comprehensive, however, and you’ll find plenty of other things to do in town if you go out and explore things on your own!
