Just because you’re out of school doesn’t mean you can’t get involved in a club or a class. If you’re new to Houston or you want to switch up your routine and try something different, signing up for a fun class or activity in your community is the perfect way to meet new people and step outside of your comfort zone. Here’s a look at some of the best classes, clubs, and workshops to check out when living in Memorial Heights.
Well Done Cooking Classes
What better way to sharpen up your cooking skills, learn about the culinary arts, and meet new people than by attending a cooking class? Well Done provides ingredients, menu packs, tools, and music in their hands-on classes where participants get to enjoy the dishes they create. Classes cover all kinds of cuisine: Italian, Asian, French, Southern, and more. They also offer a variety of class styles, including three course dinners, social dinner parties, baking and pastry classes, and health-conscious classes.
Inprint Writers Workshop
Writers of all backgrounds can delve into the world of creative writing at one of Inprint’s workshops. The courses are designed for any skill level, whether you’re new to creative writing or are an aspiring writer hoping to be published. Workshops are designed similarly to a graduate-level creative writing course and include in-class writing exercises and some outside work, and participants work under the tutelage of some of Houston’s top writers.
Houston Sports & Social Club
Stay active, have fun, and meet new people by signing up for a league with Houston Sports & Social Club. They offer a variety of coed sports leagues, including dodgeball, sand volleyball, soccer, and softball. The main goal is to have fun, no matter your skill level. The club also hosts happy hours after every game.
Art League School
Operated by Art League Houston, an art gallery, the Art League School offers more than 100 classes and workshops every year, serving more than 1,000 students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Classes are held quarterly and are led by professional instructors. Choose from painting, printmaking, watercolor, mixed media, jewelry, and more. Enrolling in a course also grants students access to the Art League’s exhibitions, lectures, and other public programs.
